Alan Brutten, Esq.

Alan is Brooklyn-born and raised. He attended Madison High School, followed by Syracuse University to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree. He thereafter followed in his father’s footsteps in attending Brooklyn Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctor. He was promptly admitted to the New York State Bar and began to practice. After a few years in practice, he proceeded to obtain an LL.M. in Taxation at New York University while practicing, but opted not to focus any portion of his practice in taxation despite this credential. Instead, he pursued expanding and further developing his general practice after working for the Economic Development Division of the City of New York and CBS Records (which was later and better known as Columbia House Records). His son, Charles, joined him in his practice in 2011 after having worked with him since 2007 as a Paralegal while Charles was attending law school in the evening program. In 2014, they formalized the practice and made Charles a partner in the newly-formed Brutten Law PLLC. In 2016, Alan and his son, Charles, went to Washington, D.C. where they were sworn in to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

The practice today still serves a broad array of needs, but the client base is primarily focused on and related to real estate and general small business affairs.

Alan enjoys reading non-fiction, news, and science magazines, cooking, gardening, nature, movies, traveling (but ideally without the necessity of flying), and tackling home-improvement projects at his home in the Poconos where he likes to disconnect from technology.

Charles L. Brutten, Esq.

Charles is Brooklyn-born and raised. He attended Midwood High School at Brooklyn College, where he was in the Humanities Program, following which he went to Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a double-minor in Public Policy and Political Science. Thereafter, he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in attending Brooklyn Law School to obtain his Juris Doctor, although he attended part-time in the evening program while working during the day as a paralegal in his father’s practice.

Following graduation from law school is June, 2011 and admission to the bars of New Jersey (November, 2011) and New York (April, 2012), he joined his father’s practice where he remains working side-by-side with his father. Early on, before the practice with his father had grown sufficiently beyond a solo practice, Charles gained some wonderful experience working with Joshua Stein, Esq. of Joshua Stein PLLC in Manhattan on a project basis. In 2014, Charles and his father formed Brutten Law PLLC to formalize the practice and establish Charles as a partner. In 2016, he and his father, Alan, went to Washington, D.C. where they were sworn in to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Charles enjoys remaining active in his personal life. He is always going to new restaurants in pursuit of new dining venues and culinary approaches and writes reviews about his experiences. He also enjoys travel and has done a fair amount of domestic and international travel, but there are always next destinations on his mind. He enjoys the outdoors and exercise and combining them by hiking, kayaking, and canoeing.

Charles practices on both the transactional and litigation sides of the practice, but originally used to be almost solely transactional. He has expanded his breadth and depth in litigation, but still prefers most day to negotiate an anchor lease or aid our clients in underwriting a new potential acquisition by conducting the appropriate due diligence with a focus on the legal issues that may affect the clients’ projections. Charles is a member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), as well as its Real Property Section as well as several sub-committees of the Section. Charles is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Charles is a licensed real estate broker in both New York and Pennsylvania and is qualified as a FINRA arbitrator. Charles is a member of the Board of Directors of Heal The Planet – a 501(c)(3) based in Southern Florida that primarily looks to educate the children within the communities that it serves on nutrition, exercise, sustainable lifestyles, and stress management. He enjoys aiding the charity in its mission of having youth empowered to make informed decisions regarding their diet and physical and emotional wellness.
